What Women can Expects from Doctors on Approaching Abortion?
With hype of funds being cut for Planned Parenthood, abortion bus/drones/boats etc. being pro-choice, while pro life protesting horrendously, the real facts about pregnancy termination gets drowned somewhere. People know that something is going in news about fetus eviction, but they may not have the clear picture as to what are their choices to it, or how the procedure is undertaken at a clinic or home. Doctors say, when it comes to child, the person has options of adoption, parenthood or abortion. The last option is a hot debate topic, but is equally supported where such means are legal.
Valuing a Woman’s Decision
In most cases, women are sure about their decision. Those who are not can speak to counselors or doctors to get best suggestions. Though some may suspect a doctor’s personal bias in recommendations, they are trained to be supportive, nonjudgmental, and nondirective so that female can make her own choice, which is ably suited for her. Very rarely does a patient give in for forced pregnancy termination. Families are rather supportive, or the person comes along with a close friend etc.
Appreciating Her Feelings
Emotional response to abortion is fine. A woman does not lose out on feelings when deciding for pregnancy termination. Feeling depressed, sad, happy, relieved etc. is a part or phase of preparing for the chosen decision. However, it is also true that every female who selects this procedure has spent enough thought behind discontinuing a full term pregnancy. Every patient may have a different reason as to why they do not want to give birth to a baby. A majority of them would not like to face such a tough call again, as the pregnancy is unintended and was not planned for.
Understanding the Reasons
A research found that about one third of women who went in for pregnancy termination did so for care giving difficulties or financial crisis, only 13% of them were performing the process due to fetal health problems. However, doctors make sure that the patient is not made feel that what is choosing is devilish or a selfish call. After all, it is hard to judge what the female must be going through in such a situation or what may have influenced her. The patients maybe given the right to keep their reasons for the procedure a secret until it has to do with something that needs medical intervention.
Abortion is Common
Another study revealed that by the age of 45, 30 percent of females have abortion and 60% of them are already mothers. Thus, family planning could be another reason to pregnancy termination. Hospitals that deliver such services get patients from different religions, economic-social strata, political affiliations etc. The method is not uncommon but utilized by millions of women worldwide. Shaming the practice is a total disgrace to medical science and the woman, as it takes a brave heart to end a life willingly.
Pregnancy Ending Methods
There are two ways of approaching an abortion, either via medicines or surgery. The former takes up to couple of weeks, while the later can be completed within few minutes. In medicated pregnancy ending, the woman is given Mifepristone anti progesterone pills to be taken orally, and continued with a dose of Misoprostol after 2 to 3 days of initial dose. The medicine cause uterine lining to shed and expel fetal particles from the vagina with fluids and bleeding. In surgery, the doctor dilates cervix and uses suction tool to remove the fetal sections. Both the methods are risk free, and do not cause complications, until rarely.
Breaking the Myths
There are certain myths about pregnancy ending. The most common being impact on future fertility. But, abortion pills or vacuum aspiration do not cause fertility issues or lead to restriction of future pregnancy, neither do they cause fetal deformity. Also, the myth of breast cancer and uterine cancer is something that everyone should not pay attention to, as the tablets or surgical instruments do not cause cancer at all. The medicines are extremely safe, and women going for surgical removal of fetus are in hands of trained professionals, if a recognized and legal clinic is approached.
